Kasenchar, Eleanor “Ellie” (nee Castiglia) of Clifton died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on January 14, 2022. Beloved wife of the late William Kasenchar to whom she was married for 62 years.
Born and raised in Passaic, she moved to Clifton in 1960. She was a 1942 graduate of Passaic High and a 1946 graduate of Montclair State Teachers’ College, now known as Montclair State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education, Spanish, and Accounting. She was a Business Teacher at Clifton High School for 27 years spending her last 15 years as Teacher/Coordinator of the Cooperative Education Program, retiring in 1992.
She was President of School #8 PTA, President of Clifton College Women’s Club, President of Mt. Carmel Leisure Club, Recording Secretary of Passaic-Clifton Ladies’ of Unico, a current member of St. Philip’s Prime Timers, and Treasurer of St. Mary’s Hospital Guild.
She was a long standing parishioner of St. Clare Roman Catholic Church of Clifton and is now a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church. She was a member of the Clifton Teacher’s Association, the National Education Association, Passaic County Retired Educator’s Association and the New Jersey Retired Education Association.
She is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 62 years, her parents Antonina and Michael Castiglia, two sisters, Annamarie Canzoneri and Josephine Castiglia.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ellen Korty and her husband Brian of Potomac, Maryland; Barbara Lynn Patterson and her husband William of Waterloo, South Carolina; and a son William Michael Kasenchar and his wife Nanci of Ambler, PA. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Thomas William and Jonathan Dennis Patterson, Alexander Michael and Matthew Patrick Korty, and Claudia Rose, Margo Iris, and Ingrid Lily Kasenchar. She is also survived by a sister Gloria Stacy of Passaic, NJ, three grandnieces, Christine Loizos, Jennifer Strickland and Michelle Derpich.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel – 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church at 10 AM. Entombment at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi. Visiting on Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM. In Lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association
